South Lyon Cycle Racing Team Update

Team Launch!!!

The team met for the first time in 2007 on Saturday, March 24 for the official team presentation. The “black-tie” J affair was held at the historic South Lyon Hotel, restaurant in beautiful downtown South Lyon on a lovely Michigan spring day.

Nearly the complete team was in attendance, with some of the collegiate racers missing as they were competing at the Michigan State University road race, which was being held at the same time.

The meeting was a great opportunity for everyone to meet up after a LLLLONNNNNGGG winter, share stories of winter vacations riding in Arizona, Spain and even Panama, as well as eat some great food before the season starts.

Meeting MC, John Rigdon went over introductions of new team-members as well as introducing the teams new lead sponsor, Gary Childs of South Lyon Cycle.

After taking care of business, everyone dove into their goody bags containing the 2007 uniforms. This was like a birthday celebration as what cyclist doesn’t love getting new GEAR!!!!

Once all the team pictures were taken care of, all those who could headed out on a team shake-down ride through South Lyon and up into Kensington Metro park. Of course, what started as a gentle training ride turned into an all out hammer-fest! Ouch!!!

2007 promises to be a HUGE year for the team and Michigan racing! Stay tuned!!!

Sunday, March 25, 2007 – Fisk Knob Time Trial – MICHIGAN SEASON OPENER

Tony Wieczorek, Dominick Wieczorek and Rob Iser all traveled up to Grand Rapids for the Michigan Season Opener, the FISK KNOB TIME TRIAL. In what might be foreshadowing of the popularity of the sport of road racing in 2007, the event sold out with 180 participants. 3x the previous record!!! WOW!!!

Picking up where he left off in 2006, Tony Wieczorek scored the teams first podium placing of the year by taking 3rd in the U19 category! Way to go Tony!!!

Next up on March 31st/April 1st are the first two events of the SE Michigan Spring Training Series. Full reports will follow!

Lastly, the 2007 Tour of Kensington Valley is open for registration. The team will be promoting what we hope will be the LARGEST road racing event in Michigan in 2007!!!!
