Weekend Racing Report - February 10, 2007
Schabobele Road Race – California, Kentucky
For the fourth consecutive year the team will open up the season at the world famous Schabobele Road Race in Flagg Springs, Kentucky. This race is run on a course that's about as close to a Belgian classic as you can get in the U.S.
The roads are single lane farm roads which were laid out when the area was settled in the early 1800's. Traffic is very minimal and the roads wind up over hill-and-dale amongst farms in the area. The climbs are short, but extremely steep.
The race itself has become somewhat of an underground classic and a victory here is a HUGE badge of honor among the Elite racers in Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan and even Canada.
If you have a chance, I'd say, give it a try.

The "Toaster" climb, hits pitches of up to 25% and comes after 3 other climbs, all in the span of only 3 miles of the course.
"Lucky" the 3-legged dog is a fixture on the race course. Legend has it that the first racer to spot him during the race will place on the podium. Watch for him after the circa-1856 Wesley Chapel at about mile 7 of the course.
