Happy 2006!!!

As the team enters the season, there’s MANY new developments to report. First, we’d like to thank and welcome the new sponsors who have joined the team for 2006! With the addition of Liquid Mfg (Rug Rat Root Beer), Maxxis International, Blue Competition Cycles, Syncros Applied Technology, and Coach Hamilton Training, the team is poised for great success in 2006!

Returning sponsors for 2006 include, Sunrise Sports, Jittery Joe’s Coffee, Ritchey Components, CLIF Bar, Facet International Marketing, Ann Arbor Velo Club and the Midwest Cycling Group.

For 2006 our Juniors team has been bolstered by 3 new arrivals:

Taylor Birmann – Winner of the 12-14 Class at the 2005 ICEMAN COMETH Race in a BLISTERING time of 1:55:02, which was FASTER than many Senior riders!!!

Brendan Pauley – Standout junior racer from the Ann Arbor Velo Club

Rafi Kronenberg – Winner of the Tailwind 2005 Cyclocross Race Series, Men 13-15

Watch for these three to build on the incredible performance put in by the Juniors team in 2005.

The news on the Under-23 (U23) front is that Vince Roberge will once again be spending the season racing with the Cycling Center (www.cyclingcenter.com) development program in Hertsberge, Belgium. Vince departs for Belgium on March 7th and doesn’t return until September 6th! Vince has PROMISED to race the Tour De Leelanau with the team on September 16th. Additionally, Vince will be racing with the Cycling Center team at the Valley Of the Sun Stage Race in Arizona on February 17, 18, & 19th. Check out the race at: http://www.wmrc.org/index.html

Watch for reports from Vince as the season progresses.

Other news on the European front is that Derek Timmermann has also been selected to attend the Cycling Center. Derek leaves for Belgium on March 24th and Returns on June 11th. Additionally, for the month of July, Derek will be racing and training at the Park City Cycling Academy in Park City, Utah (http://parkcitycycling.com/home.htm) . Derek plans on racing with the team for the Sunrise Sports Allen Park Criterium on June 17th, as well as the BIG races in the month of August. Then at the defacto “Michigan World Championships”, the Tour De Leelanau on September 16th.

While not as glamorous as what Derek and Vince will be doing, the rest of the team will be kicking off their season at the Schabobele Road Race on February 18th, in Flagg Springs, Kentucky. That’s only 31 days away!

With steep 25% climbs, narrow one-lane roads, farmers waving as you race by, farm dogs barking at the riders, and registration in a JEN-U-WINE Kentucky Road House bar. This race is the closest you’ll come to a Flemish One-Day Classic in the US! Check out the promoters site at www.godzulla.com and watch for the race report after the event.
