Weekend Racing Report - December 4, 2005
I can honestly say, THIS WILL BE THE LAST RACE REPORT for 2005!!! As a bonus, I’ve attached some pictures here, just so you can get a feel for how COLD it was. Especially for our friends down in Georgia!!!
On Sunday, December 4, 2005 many of the team competed at the Michigan Cyclocross Championships at Stoney Creek Metro Park. The race course was held at the Bay Point Beach area of the park and the race had been hyped as
“THE BATTLE AT BAY POINT BEACH”
All week the weather reporters were forcasting a dry day with temperatures in the mid to upper 30F’s. So, of course thatmeant there’d be snow and much colder temps, RIGHT? Well, that’s what happened. Overnight 3” of fluffy powder snow fell on the park. Additionally, the temperature never rose above 25F and the wind gusted up to 25mph at times, making it feel MUCH COLDER!
It was a fantastic day for coffee sales, with the coffee booth taking in over $250+ in sales of Jittery Joe’s coffee. At one point young Rafi Kronenberg had a waiting list going and couldn’t brew the coffee fast enough! I was doing the announcing for the race and Rafi would yell to me “Joe, announce that the coffee is ready for Robert, Julie, Keith, Brian and Lowell!”.
As well as being the State Championship race, this race was also the final one in the Tailwind 2005 CX series. Best placed in any of the overall categories was new Junior team member Rafi Kronenberg, who had the Juniors 15-18 overall series locked up. Most exciting was that Rich Stark was leading the Masters 35+ by only 1 point. This category would come down to the wire.
After all the flying SNOW had settled, the team came out of the fray with THREE STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS and TWO OVERALL SERIES TITLES!!!
Alex Keomany – Junior 15-18 Michigan Cyclocross Champion (on top of being the Michigan Junior 17-18 Road Race Champion)
Rafi Kronenberg – Junior 15-18 Tailwind CX Series Champion
Jordan Stohl – Men U23 Michigan Cyclocross Champion
Rich Stark – Masters 40-44 Michigan Cyclocross Champion, Masters 35+ Tailwind CX Series Champion
Additionally, your’s truly, Joe Lekovish, even placed 3rd in the Masters 40-44 Michigan Cyclocross Championship race category, winning a bronze medal!
It was a great way for the team to wrap up the 2005 season. Check out the full race and series results at:
